Our 65 Year History

To meet the needs for quality mother and baby care, Pigeon was founded in 1957 in Japan by Yuichi Nakata whose vision to provide quality, comfort, convenience and affordability in one brand has made Pigeon a market leader today.

With a range of products encompassing every need in maternity and baby care, Pigeon is a one-stop shop for new parents and parents-to-be. Headquartered in Japan, PIGEON has subsidiaries in Singapore, Malaysia, India, Thailand, Korea, China, and USA. Singapore is the regional headquarter for ASEAN countries.

With no available research data and know-how, Mr Nakata found his own unique methods to study the sucking mechanism of babies using a variety of technologies available at the time.

What Yuichi Nakata saw was the unique movements of the tongues of babies when they sucked milk and his extensive research data contributed to the development of artificial teats. Scientifically named “Peristaltic Movements” much later, they formed the basis of all the bottles and nipples made in the Pigeon research centre.

For over 5 decades, PIGEON has dedicated research capabilities towards the sucking behaviour of babies. Having established a solid foundation of research, PIGEON is recommended today by many top medical and academic professionals.

At the core of our R&D activities is our Central Research Centre (CRC) established in 1991 in Tsukuba Mirai city in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. Standing by our commitment to offer intelligent solutions, we opened a special wing of the CRC in Singapore in 2011 to collect statistical data relevant to breastfeeding-related products.

From initial studies by attaching cameras to the bottom of baby bottles, to the latest in ultrasonic echo testing, we are always moving forward with technology.

Our expert knowledge and passion for quality, coupled with our ability to adapt new technology and materials, ensures Pigeon’s research is at the forefront.

The Pigeon logo comprises two hearts – those of the mother and her baby. The baby’s tiny heart is embraced by the mother’s large heart, depicting the endless love the mother showers on her baby.
